Amazonia

Amazonia is a Spinning Rapids Ride built by Intamin in the Mundo Amazonia area of Bellewaerde Park in Ypres, Belgium. It opened on 20 April 2024 as the most expensive attraction in the park's history, costing around 14.5 million euro, and replaced the former Keverbaan. Its Brazilian-themed layout is a prototype with several unique elements.

The round eight-seater boats are weighed in the station before a conveyor belt lifts them to the first descent, which runs through helices and straight sections into a water basin. A current carries the boat to a vertical lift for a second descent, followed by a half-pipe element and a final basin. Just before returning to the station the boat takes a free-fall drop in the dark.

The ride is 540 metres long, reaches a height of 26.4 metres and a top speed of 14 km/h, lasts about six minutes and runs 14 boats for a capacity of 960 riders per hour. Amazonia suffered repeated technical problems after opening, mainly with boats stalling in the half-pipe: it ran only seven days in 2024, reopened on 15 June 2024 and closed again, and after winter modifications to the boats, water pump and half-pipe railing it reopened on 5 April 2025. Further short closures followed until a switch part was replaced at the end of August 2025.
