Congo River Rapids

Congo River Rapids opened in 1986 as Grand Canyon Rapids and took its current name in 1992, when the area around it was rethemed to Katanga Canyon. The Intamin rapids ride sends circular eight-seat boats along a 725 metre channel past geysers, waterfalls and rockwork.

Boat loading was reduced from eight to seven riders in 2019. It remains one of Alton Towers' most popular family attractions and a guaranteed soaking on a warm day.
