Los Piratas

Los Piratas was a dark water ride through pirate scenes at Bellewaerde Park in Ypres, Belgium. It opened in 1991, built by Mack Rides together with Space Leisure for the Walibi Group, and combined a Maya-culture setting with pirate theming.

Boats drifted at roughly 2 km/h along a 250-metre indoor course with a maximum height of 3.7 metres, giving a ride of about seven minutes. Twelve boats carried 16 to 20 riders each, with no restraints, for a capacity of around 1,500 riders per hour. There was no on-ride photo.

The ride closed on 2 September 2012 because of its age, the resulting maintenance costs and fire-safety requirements it no longer met, and it was demolished in November 2012. The roller coaster Huracan now occupies the same building.

During Halloween 2001 the attraction was given a full horror overlay: the pirate at the entrance had bloodshot eyes, a witch greeted guests, the queue became a walkthrough and actors appeared in the station and along the ride. In 2022 several of its original boats reappeared in the fountain around El Volador during the Halloween season, complete with the ride's iconic music and skeleton props.

A similar attraction, Pirate Adventure, opened one year earlier at Drayton Manor in the United Kingdom and is also no longer operating.
