Piraña

Piraña was the first river rapids ride in Europe and only the second in the world. Designed by Ton van de Ven, with later adjustments by Karel Willemen, and built by Intamin, it opened to guests on 31 March 1983 and was officially opened on 18 May 1983 in Efteling's Anderrijk area. Thirty-five paddle-less rafts drift along a 600 m course of totem poles, waterfalls and rock work themed to South America, reaching 2–20 km/h with a 3 m descent per ride. A trip lasts 5 to 8 minutes depending on water flow. The ride cost about ƒ16 million and still moves up to 2,000 riders an hour. (Stats per Eftepedia.)
