Vikingar began life at Belle Vue in Manchester, where it ran as the Water Chute from the 1950s until that park wound down at the end of the 1970s. Blackpool Pleasure Beach bought the ride and rebuilt it at the northern tip of the park as a new attraction for 1979, swapping the old wooden structure for a steel one.

Rather than a boat ride in the usual sense, it was a circular water chute: a side-friction coaster whose six-seat cars stayed on the track all the way round an oval circuit, finishing with a big drop into a trough of water and a splash that soaked anyone in the front. In the run-up to Valhalla it received a Viking makeover and its new name. Once Valhalla opened next door in 2000 the ride was largely hidden from view, ran only on weekends and holidays, and closed for good after the 2003 season.
